The Closure Myth
Building Continuing Bonds for Grieving and Bereaved Children
Brenda is the author of seventeen books and has appeared on radio and television and is a retired bereavement counsellor and trainer. She says "How often have you heard TV reporters shouting outside a court after a murder or manslaughter verdict has been given, ‘ Have you got closure now?’
Do you like me, think, ‘What do they mean by ‘Closure’ ? And, what about the bereaved what do they think? The majority of children with whom I have worked, want and have continuing bonds with a family member or friend who has died. That connection sustains them in the aftermath of death and helps build resilience.
We will look at our own continuing bonds with those who are no longer physically present and how we help grieving and bereaved children to build healthy bonds.
