What's on in Sussex

Organisation: University of Brighton

AN EXPERIENTIAL MORNING ON FOCUSING Focusing works as a means of going beyond technique, objectification, and diagnosis in order to practice therapy as a person-to-person relationship with existential depth.

During the first part of the morning Greg will introduce elements of Eugene Gendlin’s experiential philosophy and the non-oppressive practice of Focusing, and will invite attendees to explore the therapeutic and personal impact of bringing our awareness to how our bodies are alive experientially.

What are the possible implications of working from the body, in our own lives, in our practice, in our thinking and in our communities? In the second part of the morning attendees will have the opportunity to participate in an informal question and answer conversation around any topics of interest relating to therapy, existence, the subversive potential of prioritising experience, professional issues and larger questions that concern us.

Focusing is a natural skill which supports wellbeing and ongoing self-exploration. Connect with your body, improve your relationship with yourself, support overwhelming emotions and connect with your intuition. Step into a way of experiencing that is more nuanced, rich and alive. The workshop is highly experiential and explores the ‘felt sense’ and Focusing listening.

Optional day two and further weekends lead to a BFA Certificate in Focusing Skills.
